SRM University has the Largest IET Student Member Community

Strengthening its focus on imparting quality engineering education, one of India’s top ranking universities, SRM University, has registered 1,000 engineering students with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). The IET now has a student member strength of 2,000 on the SRM campus, making it the largest community of IET student members on any campus, globally. The induction ceremony was held at SRM University campus in Chennai and was chaired by Professor Richard Morling, IET Accreditor & Emeritus Professor from the University of Westminster and Dr Muthamizhchelvan FIET, Director of Engineering and Technology at SRM University.

Dr Muthamizhchelvan said: “SRM encourages students to enroll in reputed national and international professional bodies. The Education and Young Professional engagement teams in professional bodies arrange technical lectures delivered by renowned scientists, engineers and industrialists helping students widen their exposure. They help transform students into leaders, team builders, team workers and help them understand professional work culture.

"Our vision for SRM is to globalise engineering education by providing as much flexibility to the student’s education and to adopt the latest technologies that are transforming higher education around the world. Partnership with organisations like the IET aligns well with our vision.”

Congratulating SRM University on this milestone, Shekhar Sanyal, Director and Country Head, IET India said: “The IET believes in the holistic development of students to ensure their technical knowledge is at par with their global counterparts. We are encouraged by the efforts that SRM University is taking to ensure better employability of our engineers.”
